Description
A deliciously roasted cabbage seasoned with spices and buttery goodness.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 head cabbage
- 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder, divided
- 2 teaspoons smoked paprika, divided
- 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning, divided
- 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning, divided
- 1 lemon, juiced, divided
- 6 tablespoons butter, divided
- salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 385°F (196°C). Cut out the core of the cabbage, then make six 2-inch deep cuts from the base, going about a quarter of the way down. Drizzle the cabbage with oil and rub it in evenly.
- Season the cabbage with about a teaspoon each of garlic powder, smoked paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay, and a bit of chicken bouillon. Squeeze half a lemon over the cabbage and rub the spices in thoroughly to coat all sides.
- Place a few tablespoons of butter in the center of the cabbage, then wrap it tightly in two layers of foil. Set it on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 1 hour.
- While it bakes, melt the remaining butter and whisk in the remaining seasonings and a bit more lemon juice. Set aside.
- After the first hour, remove the cabbage from the oven. Carefully open the foil and spoon 1–2 tablespoons of the seasoned butter over the top. Reseal the foil and return to the oven.
- Bake for another hour. Once done, let it sit for 10 minutes before unwrapping.
- Sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve with extra seasoned butter for dipping, if desired.
Notes
- Ensure to buy a fresh head of cabbage for the best flavor.
- Adjust the seasonings according to your taste preferences.
