Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (for brownies)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt (for brownies)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional, for extra fudginess)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature (for frosting)
  • 45 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar), sifted
  • 35 tablespoons heavy cream or milk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of fine sea salt (for frosting)
  • Gel food coloring (red, green, or desired festive colors)
  • Red, green, and white candy melts (for decorating)
  • Mini candy bows or holiday sprinkles (optional, for decorating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, melt the butter and stir in granulated sugar until combined.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until fully combined.
  7. Fold in the chocolate chips if using.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Let the brownies cool in the pan before frosting.
  11. For the frosting, beat together softened butter and powdered sugar.
  12. Add heavy cream, vanilla, and salt until the frosting reaches desired consistency.
  13. Mix in gel food coloring as desired.
  14. Spread the frosting over cooled brownies and decorate with candy melts and sprinkles.

Notes

  • For best results, let the brownies cool completely before applying frosting.
  • You can adjust the amount of powdered sugar in the frosting to achieve your desired sweetness.
